Impact

Cypress Disaster Democracy is in its early stages of impact. Our work has already earned funding and recognition to support long-term disaster recovery and civic preparedness.

"In Cypress, TX (Cypress Disaster Recovery), teens are tackling the lack of long-term disaster recovery and civic preparedness in their community, where low-income families, seniors, and non-English speakers are often left without support, resources, or political power after the storm passes."

"Titi said her team wants to focus their efforts on low-income and underserved communities that are less likely to get assistance than their affluent neighbors.

'Not getting the checks you’re supposed to get was the first [thing] we felt we could actually maybe do something about,' she said. 'We’re hoping to help people advocate for themselves and realize that they do have options in regards to FEMA.'"
